Bridging oral and systemic health
The overarching objective of Dent2Health is to bridge the gap between oral and systemic health, thereby promoting a holistic approach to health. Dent2Health facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing between academia, industry, and the public sector, supporting the development of new innovations that impact people’s health.
The dental clinic offers a unique opportunity for early health screening, not only for oral conditions, but also for signs of broader systemic health issues. Since people visit their dentist regularly, it serves as an accessible and valuable touchpoint for identifying early signs of ill health across the body.
The Dent2Health initiative has led to the collaborative project “Bridging the Gap Between Dental and Primary Care – Improving Disease Prevention Through Screening for Elevated Blood Sugar Levels,” launched in the fall of 2025. The project brings together Folktandvården Skåne, Center for Primary Health Care Research and Medeon Science Park in a joint effort to strengthen preventive care through cross-sector collaboration.
The Dent2Health initiative is managed by Medeon Science Park, working closely in partnership with key stakeholders, including Medicon Valley Alliance, Folktandvården Skåne, Centrum för primärvårdsforskning, Malmö University, Lund University, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Steno Diabetes Center, Region Skåne, and others.
The fifth Dent2Health conference will take place on the 7th of October 2026 in Malmö. More information and registration for the conference will be available later this spring.
One of the focus areas within the Dent2Health initiative is to facilitate increased collaboration between dental care and primary care. To gain a clearer understanding of the current situation, as well as the desired future state of collaboration between primary care and dental care in Skåne, a mapping study was conducted within the framework of Dent2Health during the winter of 2024.
